Progress is slow but steady.
Time has been in short supply and I haven't blogged nearly enough which I hope to be able to change from now on.
The car is making steady progress although it is never fast enough considering how long I have waited so far. I have had to make a choice concerning the option of streetable or race track only. To go with race track only I would need a roll cage that allows for running low 7 second runs. Doing this makes a passenger seat obsolete. Because I need to be able to properly get used to the power and handling, I have chosen to stay with a roll cage certified for 8.5 seconds. This will allow me to be streetable and take the car to the street legal races where a license plate is required. After I have enjoyed the car both on the street and on the track for a year or two, I will re-work the cage so that I can run this car full out because she will then become a track dedicated car. For the initial time I am sure 8.5 second runs will keep me smiling as well as the looks that Vettes & Vipers will give me when the run into me on the street. :)
Af far as the car's progress goes, the firewall and tunnel are almost finished. There is a little tweaking still needed but it is starting to look like a car again.
The transmission mount is finished and it is designed for a quick removal when the need arises to change the tranmission or fix it. The engine mount is being worked on and it will follow the same 'quick removal' design.
The seats are sitting in customs and once they are cleared we will have them fitted and mounted. Then we will be able to button up the front section of floor which will also allow for easy removal should the need arise.
The next area to be addressed will be the front suspension which needs to be changed up some to allow for the car to handle lifting up and landing at take off. While there will be wheelie bars on the car at the track we are planning for the simple fact that this car will stand up when launched and I don't want to take any chances with breaking parts.
We are also addressing the clearance issue on the rear calipers/wheels. This was a relatively simple fix that a bit of grinding and an 1/8th" thicker wheel spacer, solved.
While that work has been going on, I finally got some flow bench results back from two shops on the quality of the Ecotec race head and intake manifold/intercooler. The head results was nowhere close to what I was told they were and the intake manifold/intercooler was a huge failure when it was on the flow bench. These results were no big suprise, just confirmation of what other professionals had already said. We are now in the position to start the legal battle to recoup what we have lost. Everyday I discover other parts that were not returned or that were billed for and never bought, from/by the company who royally screwed me over. There will be more on that front as we wind threw that battle.
It is almost Christmas now and not much more is likely to happen on the car this year. Once the new year starts and more work is done at Resnick's, the car will head home to be wired by myself and a few select volunteers. While it is home, I will also repaint the engine bay and interior/roll cage. I will also start the process of doing the interior. Come the end of March this project will be heading to the race track and we will all finally see some smoke pouring off of those back tires. :)
